India's Spice Exports Breached 1.8m Tonnes Last Year
Published on 24 February 2026, The Times of India reported that India’s spice exports crossed 1.8 million tonnes in the last year, generating more than $4 billion in revenue. The milestone was highlighted during the International Spice Conference (ISC) 2026 held in Kochi. Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant emphasized that India continues to remain the world’s largest producer, consumer, and exporter of spices.
The conference theme, “Spice 360 – Getting Future Ready,” focused on strengthening supply chains, improving compliance standards, and expanding global competitiveness. Experts stressed the need to shift from bulk exports to value-added and branded spice products, adopt advanced technologies like AI in farming and processing, and promote climate-resilient cultivation practices. With more than 80% of spice cultivation driven by small farmers, the industry aims to ensure inclusive growth while enhancing global market presence.
India’s spice sector is now positioning itself to become more innovative, sustainable, and future-ready.
